This Morning

Since I've been watching Flowers this week, (And Night Manager!) I've going to post this interview with Olivia and Julian. I think it's so Julian to let Olivia do most of the talking!

Gentle Julian

As part of Flowers publicity, Julian has done a whole slew of interviews (or what counts as a whole slew when it comes to him. Merely a handful when compared to when Noel is doing publicity!) Anyway, Flowers seems to be quite the success, and justly so. I've been watching it and it's brilliant. The writing is good, the filming is good, the casting is spot on, and the actors are all amazing.

Read it at The Guardian:

Depressive”, “intense” and “awkward” are the most common adjectives used by the press to describe the comedian, musician and actor Julian Barratt. But none of those words actually fits the sweetly shambling man I find having a pot of tea on his own in the Highgate pub near his home in London. Instead, the adjective that comes to my mind upon spotting him in his high-waisted cotton trousers, mismatched jacket and skew-whiff hair is “gentle”.

Noel Fielding vs Simon Amstell

How about some Noel and Simon on NeverMind The Buzzcocks for our Throw-back Thursday!? Such classic moments! (And can I mention how much I love Kristan!)

Noel Fielding’s Endless Journey Through Time And Space

Beatroute: This is what I think of as an "introductory" article--an article for people who have no idea who he is. What I find particularly  interesting about this one is the fact that is about Noel's history, not The Boosh's history. So it starts out with him in college and goes through Luxury Comedy. Now I know there have been plenty that have done that, but somehow this one feels like it is centered on him a bit more. Usually they are about his career in relationship with The Mighty Boosh. This one is just his career. I like that.

More On Set The Thames On Fire

So many excellent pictures of Noel in this photo burst from the premiere of Set The Thames On Fire by Mad Orange Photography! Also, there's a nice write up over here at the London, Hollywood blog. And another over here by The Velvet Onion. What an event that would have been to attend. And it does seem Noel is quite excited about it.

Has It Really Been A Month?

It was a month ago today (altho on a Friday, not a Monday!) that we were packing to head to Chicago for An Evening With Noel Fielding. Still not over it!

Catherine Tate: Laughing at the Noughties

This is quite long and Noel is just a small part of it, but I found it interesting and worth sharing. So grab a drink and a snack and sit back and take a Sunday morning break. Because we all deserve one!

The Interro Bang

An interview that was done after the tour instead of during it, which is nice because we see Noel's reflections on it. He compares it to the European and Australian tours. And he likes us, he really likes us! My hope from the beginning was that we as a country would make a good impression, and it sounds like we did. So that's a relief. I know the venues were small, but I almost get the feeling he was surprised that they were all sold out.  He doesn't realize how dedicated his fans are, apparently!

Favorite Pictures

I'm so behind on posting Noel's selfies from the time he was in North America. I think this is one of my favorites. From Noel's Twitter.

Throw Back Thursday

Just a little short video of Noel Fielding hosting the Save The Hawley gig in Dingwalls, Comden. I have no idea when this was, but the video was uploaded back in 2008. And hey, there's bubbles!

Mid-Week Flashback

I can never decide if I think this is funny or just, well not so much. Actually, I think it rather is. I'm just not the biggest Matt Barry fan, but it was written with Richard Ayoade and Julian and Noel both have parts. So it has it's redeeming qualities.

"AD/BC is a parody rock opera with music by Matt Berry and lyrics by Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade. It aired on BBC Three in 2004.
The opera is a pastiche of the life-of-Christ rock operas popular in the early 1970s, such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. Sitting at a piano in the late 70s (1978, several years past the time when Jesus-themed rock operas had been popular), writer Tim Wynde (Matt Berry) introduces his creation as a new telling, "told in rock", of the birth of Christ, this time from the point of view of the Innkeeper."

Set The Thames On Fire Premier

This is the picture
Set The Thames On Fire premiers this week. I know it'll be ages before I get a chance to see it--if I get the chance at all. I'm just hoping I do because it looks interesting and it has some good talent (and I don't just mean Noel, although in that costume...!) [X]

Virunga: A New Threat

Going through my archives this week and doing a "clear out". This is a little piece narrated by Birdie about the threat to the rainforests of Virunga that I saved a month or two ago. So we'll start here!

Rebeat

I think it's universal; one of the things that all Boosh fans have in common is an appreciation for music. And here is a nice article that reiterates that. 10 times 'The Mighty Boosh' Made Us Laugh About Music. It even comes complete with pictures and videos!

NF Rage

I haven't watched this and have no idea what it is.(But it starts with Blue Song, so I'm happy!) Shall we watch it together? Great!

Noel Fielding at the Vogue Theatre

Another write-up about AEWNF, I wasn't sure at first if the author was familiar with Noel, but apparently is,  at least his television work, although he admits he isn't familiar with his stand-up. The writer saw the last show of the tour, in Vancouver. Nice run-down of the show. Read the Concert Addicts article here.

Much of the show seemed pretty off-the-cuff, though I am not too sure if that is because he came up with unique material on the fly or if he just has such an easygoing canter to his speech that it comes across as winging it.

More From Julian

Because we're a bit like a dog with a bone, and not about to let it go, here's some more from Julian about Flowers and about the possibility that he and Noel may start writing together again, as reported by NME.

More on Flowers

I'm getting really excited about Flowers. They call it a dark comedy, but it doesn't really sound like much of a comedy. Sounds more like a drama. I just hope I get a chance to watch it and see for myself! Read about it here.  [X]

Could It Be True?

The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt reunite for new project

The Mighty Boosh, together again? Could it be? Read it for yourself here!

“We’re talking about doing something else together now… something with a longer arc really,” he told RadioTimes.com, adding that he and Fielding remain firm friends.

Noel In Chicago

Off Noel's Twitter after Chicago. Yes, I'm just getting around to posting it. I can't believe it's already been two weeks ago. It just proves that old women can still have adventures!

Back Stage Seattle

Noel and gang have posted so many selfies on Twitter and Instagram over the last few weeks that I'm going to need a month to catch up. But I'll give it the old college try!

Short on time, so I'm just going to leave you with this. It really is the oddest thing. And I'll leave it at that!

Trailer for Flowers

Taking a break from our regular "An Evening With Noel Fielding" schedule to bring you some Julian Barratt news and Flowers! It starts April 25th and runs for 6 consecutive nights on Channel 4. It looks to be quite dark. I can't wait!

The Herbal Boys

This is from the DVD filmed in Australian. He's changed things a little, a word here and there to "Americanize" it, although I figure anyone who's as big a fan as us are going to get it. (okay, I admit, once in a while he mentions someone that I'm unfamiliar with, but I usually look them up!) After watching this, I can't make a cup of tea without imagining that the teabag is screaming! That's what this man does to me! I love when he goes off-script! I always wonder often he actually does that, but having seen him now, I know he does it quite often! (and isn't that the best!?)

Favorite Pictures

I FBed my daughter who lives in Oakland and goes to school in San Francisco and told her to keep her eyes open, " 'cause Noel's in town and you never know" and she messaged back that he sounded like a Haight/Ashbury type of guy and she wouldn't be in the area. Turns out she was right! From Love Street Vintage's Instagram.

The Department of Tangents

So I found this podcast in my drafts. I had forgotten about it, to the extent that I hadn't even listened to it, even though it's from the beginning of the North American tour. It's long, almost an hour. So, I'm going to listen to part of it now and the rest later. In the mean time, I'm going to pass it along!  [X]

The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding in Studio Q

Interview in Toronto from a couple of weeks ago-- Topics-- playing arenas (the Boosh years) opposed to playing smaller venues. Growing up, how young parents and their taste in music influenced him, a Mighty Boosh Clip (bouncy bouncy crimp) "Where is Julian? he should be here." His and Julian's "break", why they worked as a double act, Luxury Comedy. Yeah, you have to listen to this.

Goth Detective or Magical Comedy Fairies?

NightwithNoelFielding

This is a first: an article that starts with his pairing with Russel Brand "whether you consider them Goth Detectives or magical comedy fairies". But it makes sense, if one is introducing him to an audience who (assumedly) has no knowledge of The Mighty Boosh, but do know who Russel is. This isn't an interview, but mainly a run-down of AEWNF. Maybe, it could even be considered an introduction, although the writer doesn't go into his history very much. I would consider this as more of  one of those articles that you see in the Sunday Entertainment part of the paper that tell about a show/movie without really rating it. It just tells you what to expect. You know, the kind of thing you read to decide if you want to spend your time and money. Read at Comic's Comic, a guide to comedians, comedy and comedy news.

An Afternoon With Noel Fielding

DAVE BROWN - Noel Fielding

The articles are really starting to bloom, and I'm not sure whether Noel is nostalgic or wistful, but he always speaks of Julian with so much love. Does he even know what he does to us fans when he talks like that?!

Read all about it in the SF Weekly Culture. [X]

"The magic thing that I have with Julian, I don't feel I'm going to find it ever again," he says. "So I feel like we should do something else."
