Julian and The Soundtrack of His Life

Found in my drafts file! I don't know why I never posted it, but here is an NME article where Julian talks about the music he grew up with. (And yes, Weather Report is in there!)

The Pod-- Future Wars Video

This is truly mind blowing. War between the retros (led by Noel Fielding) and the futurists (led by The Pod). The idea was that Julian Barratt's character has a dream in which all the retro britpop type bands take over the country and ban all things techno and futuristic. The Pod are forced into hiding but eventually they take back the country in a brutal and violent revolution in what is clearly a totally justified war of retribution. A new city of dreams is created from the ashes of London. Not prescient in anyway, but definitely utterly utterly deranged. I am in awe of my younger self who spent so much time making something so completely freakish.

Ever Busy Noel

A nice write-up by The Velvet Onion about what Noel's been up to since the last Boosh tour in '09. Since I became a fan in 2013, I remember some, and some I've discovered through the fandom. Nice to see it all in a timeline, though!

"She's the New Me"

Julian talks about Noel and Great British Bake Off, and about how he's been replaced by Sandi Toksvig. Short video with an article. Classic, hilarious Julian! [Huffpost]

Happy Fieldmice Day!

We aren't big on holidays at my house. We do a Thanksgiving meal because food, and we do Christmas because we like it. But really, that's it. We aren't religious, so we don't do any other religion-based observances. We basically skip birthdays and Mother's Day and Father's Day. So, a few years ago, I decided to declare May 21 as my holiday-- a day to reflect and celebrate.

It all started in 2012 with this:

My husband saw Richmond on Tumblr and looked him up out of curiosity. That led to these videos:

Which led to:

At which point I was hooked. I started digging, trying to find out more about these two and I bought these:

I want to take a moment here and say that Noel's "Scribblings" was a revelation for me. I'd majored in Art my first year of College, but I lost sight of what art is--emotion and sharing-- and concentrated on what it shouldn't be--it's not photo perfect representation. I started drawing and painting again:

Then I stumbled upon Mint Royale's Blue Song:

I started listening to new music.

I rediscovered FanFiction! [X]  [X] [X]

And I discovered the greatness that is Tumblr! Ah, so many like-minded souls. Thru them, I found this:

And this:

And I was inspired to write my first fanfictions. [X] [X] [X]

My new Tumblr friends kept talking about Stockholm Syndrome with pictures from Blue Song featuring Noel and Julian in starring roles. And I searched, and my book collection grew.

And I started writing something more than fanfiction. [X]

I watched these and thought about how great it would have been to be in the audience:

And then a dream came true--something I never expected. Noel toured North America and spent a couple of nights in Chicago! Even a gallbladder attack didn't stop me from having the best night of my life. We got to spend time with our Tribe. Yay for general seating because we got there early and grabbed seats in the second row, right in front of where he came out on the stage. I screamed like a teen girl when the Beatles stepped off the plane!

And even though Julian and Noel perform together only occasionally now, we still have "bageling", an invented but aptly named concept for those times when they're spotted together. (I love the internet.)

And still, even though they've been working on separate projects, they create things that entertain and make us think:

There is so much more that I could include, but it's all there if you want to find it. Really, part of the fun is discovering it for yourself. For those who've never even heard of The Mighty Boosh, I want you to know it's much bigger than what I've put here. It's this state of mind that has given me more confidence in my own abilities, expanded my knowledge of the world, things I'd never paid much attention to before. Through Tumblr and Instagram and Twitter, I've discovered new authors and new anime and new bands that I'd have never stumbled on otherwise. And I find that to be a reason to celebrate! Happy Fieldmice Day, everyone!

Oh, and think I need to mention two more things--the love these two have for each other:

And Noel's undeniable style:

(The end--I mean it this time!)

More on Mindhorn

Another interview, this one at i-D. Julian talks about the film and how there is a little of himself in the script. And of course, at the end, he mentions Noel and the two of them making a film. I'm beginning to think that's all just a carrot the two of them swing around to keep us following!

Heerreee's Julian

There is a shit-ton of interviews coming out right now with the release of Mindhorn. This is going to be a dump site--in other words, I'll add links here to the articles as I find them.

The Big Issue: Julian Barratt: I'm Interested in Communicating the Pompous Person

The Guardian: Mindhorn star Julian Barratt: 'I love squalid sadness'

Mixcloud: How about an actual interview with Simon?

Mindhorn

I'm excited to see that Netflix is picking Mindhorn up. Normally, I don't get to see things, or I have to wait forever! I'm really hoping they mean Netflix US, not just UK. Guess we'll know soon. Read about it at The Velvet Onion.

Noel Collection

For whatever reason, I've been saving Noel pictures on my desktop. I'm sure I did it to post here, and yet life has been a bear lately. So, I'm going to do the unthinkable and post them without sources. I imagine most of them came from his Twitter and Instagram. Hopefully, I'll get back and source them later. For the moment, I just need to clear off my desktop!
