Happy Fieldmice Day!

We aren't big on holidays at my house. We do a Thanksgiving meal because food, and we do Christmas because we like it. But really, that's it. We aren't religious, so we don't do any other religion-based observances. We basically skip birthdays and Mother's Day and Father's Day. So, a few years ago, I decided to declare May 21 as my holiday-- a day to reflect and celebrate.

It all started in 2012 with this:

My husband saw Richmond on Tumblr and looked him up out of curiosity. That led to these videos:

Which led to:

At which point I was hooked. I started digging, trying to find out more about these two and I bought these:

I want to take a moment here and say that Noel's "Scribblings" was a revelation for me. I'd majored in Art my first year of College, but I lost sight of what art is--emotion and sharing-- and concentrated on what it shouldn't be--it's not photo perfect representation. I started drawing and painting again:

Then I stumbled upon Mint Royale's Blue Song:

I started listening to new music.

I rediscovered FanFiction! [X]  [X] [X]

And I discovered the greatness that is Tumblr! Ah, so many like-minded souls. Thru them, I found this:

And this:

And I was inspired to write my first fanfictions. [X] [X] [X]

My new Tumblr friends kept talking about Stockholm Syndrome with pictures from Blue Song featuring Noel and Julian in starring roles. And I searched, and my book collection grew.

And I started writing something more than fanfiction. [X]

I watched these and thought about how great it would have been to be in the audience:

And then a dream came true--something I never expected. Noel toured North America and spent a couple of nights in Chicago! Even a gallbladder attack didn't stop me from having the best night of my life. We got to spend time with our Tribe. Yay for general seating because we got there early and grabbed seats in the second row, right in front of where he came out on the stage. I screamed like a teen girl when the Beatles stepped off the plane!

And even though Julian and Noel perform together only occasionally now, we still have "bageling", an invented but aptly named concept for those times when they're spotted together. (I love the internet.)

And still, even though they've been working on separate projects, they create things that entertain and make us think:

There is so much more that I could include, but it's all there if you want to find it. Really, part of the fun is discovering it for yourself. For those who've never even heard of The Mighty Boosh, I want you to know it's much bigger than what I've put here. It's this state of mind that has given me more confidence in my own abilities, expanded my knowledge of the world, things I'd never paid much attention to before. Through Tumblr and Instagram and Twitter, I've discovered new authors and new anime and new bands that I'd have never stumbled on otherwise. And I find that to be a reason to celebrate! Happy Fieldmice Day, everyone!

Oh, and think I need to mention two more things--the love these two have for each other:

And Noel's undeniable style:

(The end--I mean it this time!)

New Music!

Loose Tapestries' new album is available now at Amazon and on iTunes! The album is full of Lux Com Painted Hawaii tunes, as well as some from An Evening With Noel Fielding. When I say available, I mean they are taking pre-orders for the vinyl, which will release on June 24th.  ($23.99 for the album, $9.99 for the mp3)

Noel Fielding Does America

So, I'm going back to An Evening With Noel Fielding. Again, there was just too much to get it posted and then there was Flowers, and I couldn't ignore it! So this article is from The Stranger [X]. Again, it's one of those "introductory" articles, aimed at an audience who doesn't know who Noel is. But the journalist did interview him (via telephone), so there is some quotes. Which is always welcome!

Noel Fielding’s Endless Journey Through Time And Space

Beatroute: This is what I think of as an "introductory" article--an article for people who have no idea who he is. What I find particularly  interesting about this one is the fact that is about Noel's history, not The Boosh's history. So it starts out with him in college and goes through Luxury Comedy. Now I know there have been plenty that have done that, but somehow this one feels like it is centered on him a bit more. Usually they are about his career in relationship with The Mighty Boosh. This one is just his career. I like that.

Introducing Noel To North America

I don't know what The Portland Mercury is, but it has a story on Noel, and it's my guess that it's not for us fans, but for the people who have no idea who he is. It's actually a nice introduction, with some nice things said about him. (so I'm guessing it's written by a fan of his work.) I so very hope his visit in our country is a positive experience, just so he'll do it again! (and possibly convince Julian to tag along again. What? We can always dream!) read it here

Throwback Thursday: Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy

The Series Two Luxury Comedy documentary. You know the filming of this show was absolute bonkers, although I'm just as sure the whole thing was extremely stressful. Noel really does know all the best people! Anyway, I'm sure I've posted this before, but it's worth a second viewing!

Here We Go Again

An interview where Noel talks about keeping stand-up fresh Boosh style, how Luxury Comedy emerged as a direct result of doing The Mighty Boosh for 10 years, and how his art and entertaining are intertwined. I'm not sure there is really anything new here, but it's a nice read. [X]

Noel Fielding - 'I've Not Ditched The Boosh'

I think I may have already posted this once, but it gives my little heart a pitter-patter, so I'm repeating it. Because this is my blog and I can!

A New Interview!

When the [Mighty] Boosh started, we thought it would be funny if Vince [Noir, Fielding’s character] was really eccentric, the problem was after a while I didn’t know where Vince stopped and Noel began, I loved wearing glitter catsuits, although I’m not thin enough for that anymore.
Check out this interview by Bridie Pearson-Jones at Student Times [X] Really, go! Check it out now! Go!

Favorite Pictures

The last installment of this trilogy. That is, as long as it remains a trilogy. Who knows what will happen. So, I'm beginning to think Joey is alive and accompanies Noel on many of his outings! Anyway, this photo is off of Joseph Lynn's Instagram.

Flash Back to Luxury

Have I posted this article from Drafted? Maybe I have. I wasn't clearing out my archives very well as I was posting things earlier in the year. So, if I did, consider it a Throw Back Thursday, if not, or you are new here, enjoy!

Another Fun Read

Another nice interview with Noel about the Boosh and about his recent projects. It's a nicely rounded article, touching on several different subjects. I love the bit about Mike at the end, so if you don't read the whole thing, at least check that bit out! Read it here: Stuff.co.nz

Dandy Dondy

From Joe's Twitter. Bless the boy. I think Dondylion is one of my favorite LuxCom characters. I really do.

Happy New Year

Yes, folks. The Holidays are over, the good moods, the cheery greetings, the colorful decorations and pretty colored lights are all going away to leave us with the drab Reality of winter, which for me means short cold days, waiting for the green of spring. Welcome back, January. Oh... reality.

Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy - Series 2 Behind the Scenes Documentary

I thought I had previously posted this but couldn't find it this morning. So I apologize if I have and just missed it. Anyway, it's the Lux Com 2 documentary filmed by Joe Lynn. I think my favorite part is Dondy Lion and how Noel stays in character (the same with Raymond Boombox). I admit, I have a fondness for "the making of" videos. I love seeing how shows are made and watching the actors as themselves! How fun!

Belfast Telegraph Interview

A nice article from the Belfast Telegraph.co.uk. I'm not going to summarize it, just because quite a bit of it is similar to past interviews, but it's a nice read for us obsessed fans!

Favorite Photos

There is a collection of the-making-of-luxury-comedy photos on Instagram, under the name of luxurynige, a terrific, wonderful set of photos. I'm assuming Nige posted them, but if not, thank you to the person that did!
